What can you do with Alpha Innotec and Niko Home Control?

Optimise energy consumption of your heat pump

If you connect your heat pump or heat pump boiler via Smart Grid Ready contacts to Niko Home Control, you can use energy routines to optimise energy consumption.

You can perform the following routines:

  • Solar mode, to benefit from excess solar energy

  • Peak mode, to avoid peak consumption

Niko requirements

Your Niko Home Control installation meets the following requirements:

Depending on the basic modules of your Niko Home Control installation, you need to install the following additional products:

Programming energy-saving routines for heat pumps

Configure the energy-saving routines for the heat pump via the Niko Home Control programming software. For more information, see https://guide.niko.eu/en/smnhc2/lv/solar-mode and https://guide.niko.eu/en/smnhc2/lv/peak-mode.

It is advised to configure the parameters as follows:

Solar mode

  • Level of excess solar energy that activates the device (one of the following options):

    • 50 % of the power of the heat pump compressor

    • 25 % of the thermal capacity of the heat pump (often the name of the heat pump contains a reference to this thermal capacity)

  • Minimum activation duration: 1 hour

Optionally: Define the latest start time and duration to ensure that the device is activated before the peak hours.

Peak mode

  • Maximum power consumption (one of the following options):

    • 100 % of the heat pump compressor power

    • 50 % of the thermal capacity of the heat pump (often the name of the heat pump contains a reference to this thermal capacity)

  • Peak target value: the maximum power level that should trigger the devices to turn off

  • Peak mode type:

    • Predictive (capacity tariff in Flanders)

    • Direct
