Indoor motion detector light and ventilator in a small room

In this step-by-step plan, an indoor motion detector in a bathroom is coupled to a lamp and a ventilator. The bathroom has a small window through which daylight can enter.

The starting point for this step-by-step plan is a project in which all of the various inputs, outputs and actions are defined.

If you do not yet have a project, follow the steps in adding a new project and thereafter in drawing a plan or upload a background image.

Click Creation at the top of the screen.

Click on add an input.

Click on indoor motion detector in the selection list in the right-hand section of the screen.

The input appears in the plan.

Drag the indoor motion detector to the right place, and assign it a recognizable name.

Select an existing location from the selection list, or click on add a location if the location has not previously been defined.

Click on modify basic settings.

A pop-up window appears.

If necessary, modify the Switch-off delay.

The switch-off delay is the time between the last motion detected and the activation of the stop behaviour. The factory setting for the switch-off delay is 10 seconds and can be adjusted (range: 10 s – 59 min 59 s).

Click save.

The pop-up window closes.

Click save.

You return to the start screen of the Creation step.

Click on add an output.

Click on lamp in the selection list in the right-hand section of the screen.

The lamp appears in the plan.

Drag the lamp to the right place, and assign it a recognizable name.

From the selection list, choose the same location that you used for the indoor motion detector.

Click on switched ventilator in the selection list in the right-hand section of the screen.

The switched ventilator appears in the plan.

Drag the ventilator to the right place, and assign it a recognizable name.

From the selection list, choose the same location that you used for the indoor motion detector.

Click save.

You return to the start screen of the Creation step.

An indoor motion detector can detect light as well as motion and can be programmed in two ways:
in motion (dark) if natural daylight is present in the room and the output must only be switched on when it is dark.
in motion (light & dark) if the output must always be switched on, regardless of the light level measured in the room.

Click on add an action.

The action appears in the plan as a text balloon.

Drag the action to a place that you consider logical and convenient, for example, next to the relevant output.

Assign the action a name.

From the selection list, choose the same location that you used for the indoor motion detector.

Click continue.

You go to the players tab.

Click on the lamp to couple it to the action.

Click on the indoor motion detector in the plan.

Two modes appear.

Click on the in motion (dark) mode.

Click continue.

You go to the basic behaviour tab.

Because you have programmed a switch-off delay in the basic settings, you do not need to program a delay under the stop behaviour in the basic behaviour tab.

Click continue.
You go to the conditions tab.

Click continue.

You go to the time automation tab.

Click save.

You return to the start screen of the Creation step.

The ventilator must always be switched on when the bathroom is being used, even during the day when the light must not be switched on. This corresponds to the in motion (light & dark) mode. It is not possible to couple the two different modes of one indoor motion detector to 1 action. A second action must be defined for the ventilator.

Click on the ventilator in the plan to couple it to the action.

Click on the indoor motion detector in the plan.

Two modes appear. The right-hand mode, in motion (dark), is grey and can no longer be selected, because it is assigned to the lamp.

Click on the in motion (light & dark) mode.

You go to the basic behaviour tab.

If necessary, enter a delay under stop behaviour to ensure that the ventilator continues to operate after the light has been switched off.

Click continue.

You go to the conditions tab.

Click continue.

You go to the time automation tab.

As a result of the switch-off delay and the delay in the stop behaviour of the ventilator, there is no need to define a time automation.

Click save.

You return to the start screen of the Creation step.

Click Cabinet set-up at the top of the screen.

You go to the Assemble the cabinet screen.

Click on the cabinet name in the left-hand section of the screen.

The specify a cabinet tab appears.

Click continue.

You go to the fill with modules tab.

Click on switching module (3x) 2U in the selection list in the right-hand section of the screen.

The software places the module on the DIN rail.

This switching module controls the lamp in the toilet.

Assign the switching module a recognizable name.

Click continue.

You go the assign tab.

Click on the line with the switching module in the right-hand section of the screen.

The virtual module appears in the right-hand section of the screen.

Click on the lamp and the ventilator in the plan to couple them to the switching module.

Click save.

The switching module now has only one free port.

Click save.

You return to the start screen of the Cabinet set-up step.

Now connect your laptop to the controller in the cabinet using a UTP cable.

Wait several minutes.

If you do not connect the laptop to the installation or do not wait long enough, you will receive the error message ‘Could not find exactly 1 Controller (found 0).’ during the Realisation  step.

You can now continue with the Realisation step.

Before uploading, re-evaluate all actions in which indoor motion detectors are involved. Do not combine indoor motion detectors with other manual controls (inputs) other than the button on the indoor motion detector itself or with the all-off function on the same output. Both of these programming actions can influence the correct operation of the motion detector and result in unexpected behaviour.
