Information, warnings and errors

Categories

The DALI bridge provides status and diagnostic information for the DALI bridge itself and for each connected DALI line. 230 V push buttons are not included in this status reporting.

Three status categories are available:

Status

Description

Info

Provides additional status or diagnostic information to the BMS.

Warning

Detected fault or abnormal condition on the DALI bus.

Error

Critical fault affecting bridge operation.

The reported status corresponds to the status indicated by the LEDs on the DALI bridge. For more information, go here: LED Behaviour

Requesting information

The BMS can request the available status information via Modbus TCP. The information is provided through the corresponding Modbus registers for the DALI bridge, DALI Line 1 and DALI Line 2. The detailed information, warning and error codes and their corresponding Modbus registers are listed in the Modbus map. For more information, go here: Modbus Map

Provided information

Information

Info messages provide additional operational or diagnostic information. They can be requested by the BMS to identify the DALI bridge or to monitor specific DALI communication conditions:

  • Test DALI connection is active to detector: this message is triggered from Modbus or via the Web interface; the detector LED blinks green for 60 seconds

  • Database is full

Warnings

Warnings indicate detected problems or abnormal conditions without necessarily stopping operation. This allows the connected building management system to monitor the condition of the DALI installation and identify potential problems. There are two types of warnings:

  • DALI bridge warnings

  • DALI bus warnings

DALI bridge warnings

  • No valid time received: Neither the PC nor the NTP server can provide a time for the DALI bridge.

The DALI bridge will sync the time for connected P48/P47 detectors during startup and frequently once a day.

  • TCP/IP connection is down: the Ethernet cable is unplugged, the switch is not powered/broken, or the network is down

  • No IP address provided by DHCP server, no static IP address configured, only link local IP address (169.254.xxx.xxx)

DALI bus warnings

  • At least one DALI device is missing its short address: E.g., a DALI driver is broken

  • No P40/M40 master on the DALI bus: The DALI bus is powered, but no P40 master is found

  • At least one DALI control gear reports failure: e.g., the luminaire driver reports failure

  • At least one DALI luminaire reports failure

  • DALI bus voltage is too low: Wrong / damaged power supply (P40)

  • DALI Bus is shorted: e.g., a cabling issue in DALI bus

  • P47/P48 has detected 80+% of max current consumption (80mA / 160mA): There are too many DALI devices on the bus

 Errors

Errors indicate critical failures that can affect the operation of the DALI bridge or the associated DALI line. These can be used by the BMS to detect conditions requiring service.

Examples include

  • Damaged flash memory,

  • Factory data cannot be read

  • Failed internal synchronisation,

  • Unsuccessful firmware update,

  • P40/M40 detector firmware is not supported or older than v2.39.
