HVAC Interface (CooLinkHub with CoolPlugs) for LG

Applicability

This link takes you to the product page. There, you will find detailed specifications, all compatible articles, certificates of CE-marking, etc.

This online manual is applicable to the following product(s):

Description

The HVAC interface allows you to connect the indoor units of your Split, Multi-Split, or Mini-Split HVAC system to your Niko Home Control installation. Once connected, you can monitor and control your entire HVAC system via the Niko Home app. You can also create routines to automatically switch the air conditioning on and off to improve your comfort and optimise your energy consumption.

Operation

You can connect your entire HVAC system, within the following limits:

  • You can use only 1 CooLinkHub per Niko Home Control installation.

  • The HVAC interface can interact with a maximum of 10 indoor units.

  • You can create up to 10 zones per Niko Home Control installation. You can add multiple indoor units to the same zone.

  • Each HVAC indoor unit requires a CoolPlug that is compatible with the brand and type of your HVAC indoor unit.

To check compatibility, verify if the required connection terminals are present on your indoor unit, as described in Connecting the CoolPlug. If you are not sure, please contact customer services.

You can control your HVAC installation via:

  • Niko Home app

  • Digital black

  • Touch 3 (only for older systems that contain an HVAC thermostat)

You can also toggle the indoor unit on/off by pressing the button on the CoolPlug for 2-3 seconds.

Installation

System overview

The CooLinkHub must be connected to the LAN port of the connected controller to allow communication with the Niko Home Control installation.

The CooLinkHub is connected to the CoolPlugs by one of the following methods:

  • wired connection via a PBUS cable (2-wire, shielded, twisted pair 20-24 AWG)

  • wireless connection via a 2.4 GHz mesh network

  • On a metal surface/DIN rail: Use the magnets to attach the CooLinkHub to the rail.

Mount the CoolPlug, by one of the following methods:

  • On a smooth surface: Use the 2 double-sided adhesive pads to attach the CoolPlug directly to the surface. The wires can be inserted through the side of the cover.

  • On a metal surface: Use the 2 double-sided adhesive pads to attach the magnets to the CoolPlug. The wires can be inserted through the side of the cover.

  • On a wall: Use screws to attach the back plate to the wall. The wires can be inserted through the hole in the center or from the side of the cover.

  • On a DIN rail: Use the DIN rail back plate of the CoolPlug to attach it to the DIN rail.

Wired connection between CoolPlug and CooLinkHub

Connect the signal wires of the PBUS cable between the terminals -, 1 and 2 on the CoolPlug and CVDC-, 1 and 2 on the CooLinkHub. Connect multiple CoolPlugs in a series (daisy chain network topology) as shown in System overview.

Wireless connection between CoolPlug and CooLinkHub

Pairing is already done for the CooLinkHub and CoolPlug that are delivered in the same starterkit. You don't need to perform the steps below for that CoolPlug.

  • Your CooLinkHub device must be powered and connected to the connected controller.

  • The CooLinkHub and the CoolPlug must be in the line of sight proximity (max 3 meters).

  1. On the CooLinkHub, press the OK button.

  2. Select the option “Wireless”, using the up/down arrow buttons.

  3. Press the OK button.

  4. Select the option “Pair”, using the up/down arrow buttons.

  5. On the CoolPlug, press the button 5 times. The red LED will start flashing fast.

  6. On the CooLinkHub, press the OK button.

  7. When the pairing is completed:

    • The LED on the CoolPlug stops blinking.

    • On the screen of the CooLinkHub, the number of connected CoolPlugs is displayed as L5 GXXX (XXX = number of CoolPlugs).

Connecting the CoolPlug

Use the HVAC manufacturer's installation manual to determine the type of terminals and their location on the HVAC indoor unit. Choose one of the wired connections below:
