Installation upgrade

This guide convenes for all programming software versions before 1.10. As from version 1.10 onwards, a wizard guides you through the different steps in the upgrading process.

Download the most recent version of the Niko Home Control software from the Niko website and install it on your laptop.

Temporarily switch off the virus scanner and the WiFi on your laptop, and add ‘configurator.exe’ to the list of trusted software in your firewall.

Start the Niko Home Control software.

Connect your laptop to the controller of the Niko Home Control installation using an RJ45-RJ45 patch cord.

Wait several minutes.

On the left side of the screen, click on download installation to PC to save the existing programming.

The Niko Home Control software displays the Project information of the programming.

Click save as.

Save the programming of the installation in the same way that you save other files.

You return to the start screen of the Project information step.

Click on Upgrade at the upper-right corner of the screen.

You go to the Installation upgrade tab.

Click on Step 2: Start the upgrade procedure.

The Niko Home Control software scans the installation.

After the scan, the software indicates whether there are modules that require an upgrade.

Click on Start upgrade.

The Niko Home Control software upgrades the modules, including the controller.

Depending on the size of the installation, the upgrade may take anywhere from a few minutes up to 30 minutes. Important to note is that, throughout the upgrade, the installation is non-active and therefore the outputs cannot be operated.

The Niko Home Control software indicates that all of the modules and controllers have been upgraded.

Click OK.

You return to the Upgrade start screen.

Under Step 3, click on Specify your installation if the installation includes other IP devices and/or a backup controller.

The Niko Home Control software does not detect IP devices and therefore does not indicate whether there are other IP devices to be upgraded.

Remove the UTP cable from the controller and connect it to the next IP device.

Wait several minutes until the Niko Home Control software finds the connected IP device.

The controller, the touchscreen and the IP interface are all examples of IP devices. Each IP device must be upgraded individually. The two selection options at the top of the screen are informative.

Click start.

The Niko Home Control software scans the connected IP device.

After the scan, the software indicates whether an Upgrade is required for the connected IP device.

Click on Start upgrade.

As soon as the upgrade is finished, the Niko Home Control software displays this message: 'Connected IP device(s) and/or the backup controller have been upgraded.'

Click OK.

You return to the Upgrade start screen.

Repeat Step 3 until all IP devices have been upgraded.

Do not forget to connect the UTP Cable to the next IP device each time.

Allow the computer enough time to detect and address the new IP device.

Reconnect the UTP cable to the controller after you have upgraded the last IP device.

The Niko Home Control software detects whether it is necessary to upgrade the power supply.

Depending on whether or not it is necessary, you can proceed to Step 4.

Under Step 4, click on Specify your installation.

You cannot upgrade the MASTER power supply. First upgrade any secondary power supply(ies). After that, temporarily transfer the MASTER role by pressing and holding the MASTER button on the power supply in the cabinet for two seconds. Does the installation have only one power supply? Then add another power supply that detects the MASTER role while you upgrade the original power supply.

Click on Upgrade.

As soon as the upgrade is finished, the Niko Home Control software displays this message: 'The upgrade of the power supplies is complete.'

This upgrade confirmation only applies to the secondary power supply(ies)!

Click OK.

You return to the Upgrade start screen.

The upgrade is complete.

Click on Project information to go to the start screen of the software.

You can now continue with the Creation step.
