Address modules and inputs

Situation

This step-by-step plan shows you how to address modules and inputs in the Niko Home Control software. Starting from this step, you must be in the house or on the site where you will install Niko Home Control.

Starting point

The starting point of this step-by-step plan is a project in which you have completed the Cabinet set-up.

Step 1: Address modules

  • Click on Realisation in the menu at the top of the screen.
  • Use an RJ45-RJ45 patch cord to connect your laptop to the controller in the cabinet.
You now see the address modules tab.

IP addresses are automatically assigned to the controller and to your computer. No special configuration is needed on your computer. Please take into account that this automatic set-up of the connection can take several minutes. If you do not wait long enough, you will receive the following error message: ‘Could not find exactly 1 Controller (found 0)'.

The right half of the screen displays an overview of all of the cabinets in the project.

  • Click on the first cabinet.
On the left you now see an diagram of the cabinet, and on the right you see an overview of the various modules in the cabinet.

During the addressing process, the unique addresses that were assigned to the materials during production are requested and displayed.

The table is arranged beginning with the first module at the bottom-left and continues on, rail per rail, until the furthest upper-right module in the top row.

  • You will now, one by one, address the various modules in the cabinet.
Adhere to the sequence that you see in the Niko Home Control programming software.
  • Go to the cabinet of your installation, and on the module, press the button labelled ‘address’.
The Niko Home Control software adds the address to the first free field in the address column.
  • Repeat this for all of the modules in the cabinet.

If the actual arrangement of your cabinet corresponds perfectly with the image in the Niko Home Control software, then you can press on all of the 'address' buttons of the modules in succession, starting at the bottom-left and continuing through to the upper-right.

  • Once all of the addresses have been added, click save.
You return to the address modules tab.

The appearance of an orange check mark behind the name of the cabinet is used to indicate that the modules have been addressed.

If your installation consists of more than one cabinet, repeat these steps for the remaining cabinet(s).

Step 2: Address inputs

  • Once all of the cabinets have been addressed, click on address inputs.
  • Here, too, you will add addresses to the second column of the table.

The difference is that the table is empty. As a rule, there are a great number of buttons/inputs/controls in one installation. Displaying all of the buttons/inputs/controls in one list would make this list unmanageably long.
  • Click, one by one, on the push buttons/inputs in the plan.
  • You are now composing a list yourself.

Do this in the sequence that you find easiest to remember, and limit the number of buttons/inputs/controls per list. For example, first make a list for all of the buttons/inputs/controls in one room. Begin at the door and go around the room in a clockwise direction. You create a new list by pressing ‘back’ and ‘continue’ in succession after you have addressed a list. You do indeed end up back in the same screen, but the table is empty once again. An orange check mark continues to be displayed to the left of all buttons/inputs/controls whose addresses have already been recorded.
  • Now go to the different rooms and press the push buttons/inputs/controls, one after the next, in the sequence that you have just specified.

You need only press once on one of the buttons on the push button, regardless of the number of buttons per control.

The Niko Home Control software adds the address to the input line.

Result

The modules and inputs have been addressed.

  • Click continue to go to the upload tab.
