What can you do with Niko Home Control?

By using Niko Home Control with your SMA system, you have access to the following:

  • Insights into your total electricity consumption (*)

    • What part comes from your solar panels?

    • What part comes from the grid?

  • Insights into your total energy production (*)
    • What part do you inject into the grid?
    • What part do you consume yourself?
  • Insights into your PV panel production (*)
  • Insights into your self-consumption (% of total production) (*)

What do you need?

General
  • No additional electrical wiring is required.
  • You have a computer with the Niko Home Control programming software version 2.17 or higher.
  • You have connected both systems to the same home network.

Your Niko Home Control installation meets the following requirements:

  • It has a wireless smart hub or a connected controller II.
  • It is configured with the most recent programming software (version 2.17 or higher).
  • It has an active internet connection.
  • It is registered and you have your e-mail address and password on hand.
  • If you have not registered your Niko Home Control installation, go to mynikohomecontrol.niko.eu.
  • You need global electricity measurement:For installation type:
    • connected controller, you need to:
    • Option A: install an electricity measuring module (1 channel or 3 channels, depending on your installation) for Niko Home Control in the electrical cabinet. The module is set to reading type "global reading". 

    • Option B: connect  connect your installation to the P1 port of your digital meter by using the wireless bridge for Niko Home Control.For installation type
    • wireless smart hub, you need to connect the smart hub to the P1 port of your digital meter with the provided P1 cable.

Your SMA system meets the following requirements:

  • It is a supported SMA inverter and you have its serial number on hand.
  • It has an active internet connection.
  • MODBUS port on the inverter is enabled by your PV installer during installation.
  • Click here for a list of supported SMA inverters.
  • You can find the serial number on the SMA inverter.
  • If the MODBUS communication was not enabled by your PV installer, Niko Home Control will try to enable the port automatically. When it doesn't succeed, you will have to enter the SMA installer password on the Niko portal during the activation procedure to enable the port.
  • The default SMA installer password is 1111.
  • If you don't have the SMA installer password, please contact your PV installer or fill in the form on the SMA website.


How do you activate the link between your Niko Home Control and your SMA system?

You have to set up the connection and functionality via the Niko Home Control programming software. Ask your professional installer for help.

How do you deactivate the link between your Niko Home Control and your SMA system?

You deactivate the link with the Niko Home Control programming software. Ask your professional installer for help.

After deactivating the link, the following happens:

  • The SMA functions will disappear from your Niko Home Control apps, your touchscreens and Digital blacks.
  • When used in Niko Home Control actions, the SMA functions will not be executed anymore.
